The Split: What’s it like to be a real-life divorce lawyer like Hannah Stern?

Northern Ireland divorce lawyer Karen Connolly reveals the truth from fiction and her top tips to go about a break-up.

The story focuses primarily on solicitor Hannah, a mum of three who is not-so-happily married herself to a successful barrister and practising divorce law as a senior partner in high-end (albeit fictitious) law firm, Noble & Hale.

The drama journeys the twists and turns encountered by Hannah and her family both in their own personal lives and relationships and in their professional dealings with clients. The series has made for juicy viewing and promises throughout the remaining episodes to bring further drama, providing viewers with a keyhole look at the world of the divorce law.

As a divorce lawyer living and working in the not-so-glamorous Belfast city centre, I sat down to episode one, cup of tea in hand, and watched an impeccably dressed Hannah swan confidentially through her impossibly stylish offices to meet a new client.
