iCloud Nightmare Part III: iCloud Account Holder Owns Digital Assets (even the photos!)

By Jonathan Fields, Esq.

These days, we all use cloud storage, like iCloud and Flickr, to keep all our family photos just as we had family photo albums in the past.  We keep financial and other documents in the cloud as well.  The problem is if your spouse is the account holder of your iCloud account, for example, and she/he refuses to give you the password, you may be out of luck.  Our experience has been that the company, Apple, Dropbox, etc., will not give out the password to anyone but the account holder.

The lesson:  discuss this with your spouse or in divorce negotiations and get the password as soon as possible. Then, download the content out of your accounts.
